1. Introduction and Scope
Engineer Scope is an engineering career intelligence service for engineering students and early-career engineers job-hunting in the United States. It provides job discovery, resume-related tools, career analysis, Job Intelligence, and AI-assisted features. This Privacy Policy explains how Engineer Scope collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects information, and the choices available to you when you use the service.
The service is operated by Flory Sanon. References to "Engineer Scope," "we," "us," and "our" refer to that operator.
See our Terms of Service for the rules that govern using the service itself.
2. Information We Collect
Account and profile information. Your email address, Engineer Scope account identifier, name and contact details you provide or include in a resume, school, degree, major, graduation information, location preferences, career stage, work-authorization and sponsorship preferences, career targets, and onboarding responses.
Resume and career information. Your uploaded resume file, extracted resume text, and structured information such as education, experience, projects, skills, certifications, research, and other resume-derived career details.
Job and career activity. Saved and tracked jobs, application status and related dates, notes, career plans and action items, application-related information, and relevant recent search or feature activity.
AI-related information. Information supplied to AI-assisted features, the outputs those features generate, and operational usage metadata such as the feature, provider or model, usage counts, success status, and error category.
Product analytics. Feature-use events, job-viewed, saved, and status-related events where applicable, subscription-related product events, and app lifecycle events such as install, open, update, active, and background activity. PostHog associates this data with your Engineer Scope account identifier (the Supabase account UUID). Depending on active provider settings, PostHog may also process network-derived approximate location information through GeoIP.
Subscription information. Product identifier, platform, subscription and entitlement status, expiration and renewal information, transaction identifiers, and subscription-provider event records.
Support correspondence. Information you voluntarily include when you email our support or privacy contact.
In-app notifications. Subscription lifecycle notifications shown inside Engineer Scope and whether you have read them.
Engineer Scope does not ask for your contacts, camera or photo library, precise GPS location, government identification, or a push-notification token. Information such as a phone number or location may still be collected if you choose to include it in your resume or profile.

We do not run advertising, sell personal information to data brokers, or track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
4. Resumes and Career Profile Lifecycle
Engineer Scope is designed to keep one active, current resume for your account. When a replacement resume is uploaded successfully, the superseded resume record, its parsing snapshot, and stored extracted text enter the deletion workflow. We also attempt to delete the associated superseded file from private storage.
Cleanup may be delayed when a storage or operational service is temporarily unavailable. If the replacement upload itself fails before it completes successfully, your existing current resume remains in place. When you delete your account, your current resume and associated stored and derived resume information enter the account-deletion workflow described below.
5. AI Processing and Consent
Engineer Scope currently uses OpenAI for AI-assisted processing. Requests are sent from the Engineer Scope backend, not directly from your device. The consent shown in the app is an account-level consent for applicable AI processing across the features described here, rather than a separate consent for each feature.
Resume Parser. Resume text is used to extract a structured career profile. Without AI-processing consent, applicable resume data is not sent to the external AI provider and AI-dependent parsing is unavailable.
AI Career Coach. Relevant profile, goals, career plan, application activity, and market context may be used to generate a career brief. Without AI-processing consent, applicable career data is not sent to the external AI provider and AI-dependent generation is unavailable.
Job Intelligence explanation. Relevant job-match inputs may be used to generate an explanation. Without AI-processing consent, applicable user information is not sent to the external AI provider; a deterministic, non-AI score or eligibility result may still be provided, but the AI explanation is omitted.
Engineer Scope records operational AI usage metadata. That usage log is not designed to store the content of prompts or generated responses. Some AI-generated results, such as parsed career-profile information or a Career Coach brief, are saved as part of the corresponding product feature.
You may decline AI-processing consent when it is presented. Without the applicable consent, Engineer Scope does not send the relevant user information to OpenAI for those AI-assisted operations. OpenAI processes information according to the applicable API service settings, contractual terms, and privacy practices.
6. Product Analytics
Engineer Scope uses PostHog for product analytics associated with your Engineer Scope account identifier. Analytics may include explicit feature-use events — such as viewing or saving a job, changing a tracked-job status, generating a Career Coach brief, or using a subscription feature — and app lifecycle events such as install, open, update, active, and background activity.
We do not use PostHog to record automatic screen views or touch interactions. Our analytics events are not intended to include resume text, job-description text, AI-generated text, notes, email addresses, names, or other free-form content. PostHog is not used for advertising.
Share Product Analytics is enabled by default. You can turn it off in Settings. Turning it off stops future analytics collection from Engineer Scope; it does not delete analytics already collected. If you delete your account, Engineer Scope separately submits a request to PostHog to delete the identifiable Person and historical events associated with your account identifier. Historical event deletion is processed asynchronously by PostHog and may not be immediate.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
Subscriptions are purchased through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google processes the payment, and Engineer Scope does not receive or store your full payment-card details. RevenueCat helps us manage subscription status and Premium entitlements.
We process subscription information including the product, platform, status, expiration and renewal details, transaction identifiers, and provider event records.
When you delete your Engineer Scope account, your Engineer Scope account identifier is removed from these subscription and provider-event records. A separate subscription identifier tied to RevenueCat — not your Engineer Scope account identifier — is intentionally retained, because a subscription you purchased through Apple or Google can keep sending us renewal, cancellation, or expiration events after your Engineer Scope account no longer exists, and we need that identifier to match those future events to the correct historical subscription record. Records of past provider events, including the underlying data we receive directly from RevenueCat, may still reference that retained subscription identifier.
9. Data Retention
| Data type | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | Generally retained while your account remains active, then included in the account-deletion workflow. |
| Current resume | Retained until it is successfully replaced or your account is deleted. |
| Superseded resume | Deleted after a successful replacement workflow, subject to limited operational cleanup delays. |
| Career and application data | Generally retained while your account remains active so your saved jobs, tracking history, profile, and career plan remain available. |
| AI-related data | Saved feature outputs may remain with the associated profile or career feature while your account is active. Operational usage metadata is retained as needed to operate and monitor those features. |
| Analytics | Future collection stops after analytics opt-out. At account deletion, Engineer Scope requests deletion of identifiable PostHog Person data and historical events; provider-side historical event deletion is asynchronous. |
| Subscription records | Certain identifiers and provider or transaction records may be retained after account deletion for reconciliation, provider events, transaction-related obligations, fraud or security, or applicable legal requirements — see Section 7 for which identifier is retained and why. |
| Support correspondence | Retained as reasonably needed to respond to requests and for legitimate recordkeeping, subject to the systems of the email providers involved. |
| Local session | The active authentication session is cleared on sign-out according to the platform's session handling. Some device preferences may remain on the device. |
Service-provider retention may also depend on the provider's systems, applicable service settings, terms, and legal obligations. We do not promise a fixed retention period where one has not been established.
10. Account Deletion
You can start account deletion in Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account in the app. See our Delete Account page for the full picture, including what happens to an active subscription.
The core deletion process removes your authentication account, profile, user-linked application records, current resume and associated stored or derived resume data, saved and tracked job data, and career-plan data. After the core account deletion completes, you cannot sign in to or recover that account through Engineer Scope.
Engineer Scope also submits a separate request to PostHog to delete the identifiable Person and historical analytics events associated with your account identifier. Provider-side event deletion is asynchronous. Storage cleanup and other provider-side processing may also require limited additional time.
Certain subscription identifiers, transaction or provider records, support correspondence, or records that must be kept for legitimate reconciliation, fraud, security, transaction, or legal purposes may remain after the core account is deleted — see Section 7. Account deletion does not cancel an Apple App Store or Google Play subscription.
11. Privacy Choices and Rights
- Decline AI-processing consent when it is presented. The affected AI-assisted operations will not send the relevant user information to OpenAI and will behave as described in Section 5.
- Turn off Share Product Analytics in Settings to stop future analytics collection. This does not delete analytics history already collected.
- View and edit available profile and preference information in the app.
- Delete your Engineer Scope account in Settings — see Delete Account.
- Manage or cancel a subscription through Apple App Store or Google Play, and use Restore Purchases where available.
- Email support@engineerscope.app with a privacy question or request concerning access, correction, a copy, or deletion of your information.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights such as access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or the right to complain to a data-protection authority. These rights may be subject to exceptions under applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
12. Security and On-Device Storage
Engineer Scope uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the service, including authenticated access controls and private storage for resume files. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
On supported Android and iOS devices, authentication session data is encrypted using a key stored in platform-protected secure storage. On the web, authentication sessions use browser-local storage because the native secure-storage mechanism is not available. Signing out clears the active authentication session and user-scoped local data according to the platform's session handling; some device preferences may remain.
13. International Processing
Engineer Scope and its service providers may process information in jurisdictions other than the one where you live. Privacy and data-protection laws in those jurisdictions may differ from the laws where you reside.
14. Children and Minimum Age
Engineer Scope requires users to be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction if higher. The Service is not intended for anyone younger, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone who does not meet this requirement.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the service or applicable requirements change. We will update the Last Updated date and provide additional notice where required by law or otherwise appropriate.
